A kettős évforduló apropóján szándékozom megvizsgálni, milyen értelemben volt Ábrányi Kornél és Legány Dezső a régi magyar zene – vagy inkább: zenetörténet – krónikása. A krónikás célja rendszerint az időszakok és események megörökítése időrendben, ami többféleképpen történhet: vagy közvetlenül a szerző saját tudásából fakad, vagy azáltal válik hiteles közléssé, hogy átadja a szót egy szavahihető szemtanúnak. A történetírás vagy -elbeszélés kettéválik így a jelen dolgait megörökítő, élő beszámoló és a régmúltat felidéző holt krónika műfajára. Ábrányi magyar zenetörténeti munkái érdekes módon inkább az előbbi kategóriába tartoznak akkor is, ha a megelőző korok magyar zenéjéről szeretne beszélni, míg Legány korszakalkotó, „nem a maga csinálmánya” szöveggyűjteménye az utóbbiba.
Kornél Ábrányi and Dezső Legánÿ, Chroniclers of Ancient Hungarian Music
On the occasion of the double anniversary, this paper aims to examine the ways in which Kornél Ábrányi and Dezső Legánÿ were chroniclers of ancient Hungarian music – or rather: music history. Usually, chroniclers aim at recording the periods and the events in a chronological order. By doing so, they can proceed in several ways: the records may stem directly from their author’s own knowledge, or they may become authentic through the inclusion of reliable eyewitnesses. Thus, the writing or narration of history will be divided into the genres of the living report, capturing current phenomena, and of the dead chronicle, which recalls the distant past. Interestingly, Ábrányi’s works on Hungarian music history primarily fall into the former category, even if those cases when he discusses the Hungarian music of previous eras, while Legánÿ’s epochal collection of texts, he described as “not his own doing,” belongs to the latter.
